Nerdist Writers Panel #55: Jonathan Katz and Tom Snyder

An in-depth chat Jonathan Katz and Tom Snyder, co-creators of Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. We talk about that watershed show for Comedy Central, as well as the Snyder-produced Home Movies, “Squiggle-vision,” Katz’s stand-up, and the WB sitcom he created starring Bob Saget, and Katz and Snyder’s latest collaboration, Explosion Bus, which can be seen at explosionbus.com (the new season of which begins September 18th).

Enormous thanks to Tom Wickersham, of Katz’s team, who tracked me down while I was in Boston and arranged this interview before anyone could decline.

  1. Matty says:

I got a chance to go over the Katz house a few weeks ago, to watch a recording of some explosion bus episodes. The whole gang is hysterical, and super nice. Watching them work was awesome, and Explosion Bus is something all fans of home movies and dr. katz and good humor in general should check out.

Very good to hear…and I hadn’t yet heard of EXPLOSION BUS, so very glad to know of that venture. The notion that THE DAILY SHOW is directly descended from SHORT ATTENTION SPAN THEATER is probably not quite right, as Lizz Winstead might note as well, but former SAST host Marc Maron might’ve enjoyed the opportunity…though Jon Stewart was the original co-host of SAST, pre-Comedy Central merger. (As I recall it, SAST and MST3K were the only things to survive the merger from the Comedy Channel line-up, and only a few sitcom and SNL repeat packages were carried over from HA!’s programming offers).
