2014 is upon us! Quick, we NEED to decide what the greatest comics of 2013 were!
PSYCH! The fine folks here at Nerdist News have already decided FOR you. See, wasn’t that easy?
Enjoy the official Nerdist News Top 5 Comics of 2013, and tell us in the comments below just how wrong we are. It’s cool, we can take it.
My Top 5:
5.) Spawn
4.) Guardians of the Galaxy
3.) Fanboys Vs. Zombies
2.) Transformers Regeneration One
1.) Aquaman
My Honorable mentions: Hellboy, Hawkeye, Deadpool and Mars Attacks
I agree with everything here! However, I feel (along with the good peeps at Time Magazine) that Sex Criminals deserves some provocative attention. It’s a brilliant story so far and I’m looking forward to what’s next! Czech it out, please. Good day.
I mostly agree with the list, but it is criminal that Superior Spider-Man is left off. Saga is the best comic I’ve ever read, but I think Superior might be one of the best super-hero comics of all time. Slott’s ability to have you both be rooting for and against the titular hero/anti-hero at the same time is masterful. We can’t hope for the total defeat and humiliation of Spidey or of Ock as Peter, because we know Peter will eventually be back, and there will already be enough of a mess to clean up. But, while we might hope for Ock’s redemption, he still shows that he’s not close to it yet, as he continually allows his master-criminal-sized ego to cloud his actions. It’s fantastic and along with Saga dwarfed everything else published this year.
What about Fatale, Bedlam, Suicide Squad, Manhattan Projects, Deadpool. Those are my favorites for the year, I like and read Saga but Fatale is the best.
Here’s my Top 5:
5. Thor: God of Thunder
4. Superior Foes of Spider-Man
3. Hawkeye
2. Saga
1. Superior Spider-Man
Honorable Mentions: Afterlife With Archie, Batman, Pretty Deadly, All-New X-Men, Deadpool, FF, Uncanny Avengers, Uncanny X-Men and Young Avengers
For my money, the top comic of the year is Paul F Tomkins.
Nice list. Hawkeye dropped off a bit near the end of the year. I’d replace that with Thor: God of Thunder, but everything else looks solid.
While I normally love your guys list, you really missed the mark with this one. Batgirl, has been, by FAR AND AWAY, the best story of the year. Gail Simone deserves and Eisner for the direction she has took on this series.
I get that these are all super original storylines, but I feel that Joshua Williamsons Captain Midnight should be in here. He wrote a “brought back from the dead” story line and made me enjoy it.
