NERDIST NEWS: Spider-Man’s Future, THE HOBBIT Review, THE DLC and Much More!

Just when you think there’s no more news to be mined this week, we hit an untapped vein of high quality news nuggets that will keep you buzzing all weekend long. Happy Friday the 13th, you spooky so-and-so’s! On today’s Nerdist News, Jessica Chobot fills you in on what the future holds for Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, who will be stepping into Frank Drebin’s shoes in The Naked Gun reboot, who else we can expect to see in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and more.

After that, I swing by the studio to tell you about Telltale Games’ new The Walking Dead: Season 2 and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Plus, find out all about how you can win a brand new The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon figure from McFarlane Toys, signed by Todd McFarlane himself! It’ll look great with all of your stuff…and things…

Next up, Jessica and I sit down for another action-packed edition of The DLC, our weekly round-up of all things video games. This week, we talk about my first impressions playing The Walking Dead Season 2, Episode 1: All That Remains, what we’re playing lately and much more.

Did my full review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug elicit a bored “tl;dr” from you? Never fear because we have a video review, hosted by yours truly, that delivers all the critical insight you need without any of that pesky reading (unless you turn on closed captions).

Holy smokes! That’s all the news that’s fit to print and then some. What did you think of today’s stories? Chime in below and let us know or tell Jessica and myself on Twitter!

Frankly, I have no opinion one or another on the matter of the Marvel films other than, if my man Joss Whedon can be involved, then, by all means please involve him, for he is brilliant. Oh, and I think Jessica is really pretty. 😉

I LOVE Nerdist News. you kids rock the party that is the party.

Sseriously though, why isn’t Chobot wonder woman? criminal.

On that note, Dan is dope too, I have no idea what superhero he should be, however. maybe… ummm…. the watcher!!! tots, he should tots be the watcher, not just because that was the first obscure hero that popped (I almost wrote pooped) into my head.

note: No superheroes have ever pooped into my head.

Tangents, anybody? You know, bitter orange fruits? I’ll send you some. nom nom nom nom

Additional notes: This is what finals do to engineering students. They break our brains. Thanks for the brief reprieve from studying.

Tertiary notes: The batman bust should play Thanos in the avengers series. This is a great idea. Trust me, I stayed at a hotel… once, and it was super seedy.

Also, Jessica has amazing comic timing.

Making a Sinister Six and Venom movie to expand the Spider-man movie Universe (i.e. profits) is stretching the idea thinner than a spidey web. The integration of the Marvel movies (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Sulk) came about organically and it made sense to have them culminate with the Avengers movie. Also, they were under the expert guidance of Kevin Feige (at least that’s what his Nerdist podcast told me). This is just a profits grab. When studios start putting CGI ahead of STORY and STUNT casting ahead of GOOD casting they fall flat on their web-heads. See Fantastic Four as an example of the former and Thor and Iron Man as an example of the later. I am not at all excited by this idea and will go back to my copy of Spider-man Annual 1 if I want to revisit the best of the Sinister SIx.

Let me help you out with your promo stuff: I detect an EasterEgg in that Walking Dead action figure. Could it be a Walking Dead game season XXX stuck behind that box?

Also, if you want to help fan artist out, then I suggest green screen photo shoots or video of the Nerdist News team, or nekid pics. Either way. Just sayin’.
