Nerdist at SXSW: Cosplay! Party! Cirque du Soleil!

Hey, are you going to SXSW? Well, look at YOU, you special indie-type person you. Anyway, if you’re heading to Austin, we — Nerdist Industries — have a few events you should make some time to attend.

First, things start with the SXSW Gaming Cosplay Competition, free and open to everyone, 6:15-7:30 pm and hosted by Seth Herzog — you know him from Just Cos — and Meg Turney, and you can sign up to compete or just go and watch and have fun. Immediately after that, Nerdist Industries and comiXology are co-sponsoring “Social Underground: The Official SXSW Gaming Closing Party” this Sunday night, March 10th, from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm, with performances by Youngblood Hawke and Ra Ra Riot, It’s all at Palmer Events Center (from downtown, cross the Congress Ave. Bridge, turn right on Barton Springs Road). If you can’t make it, look for streaming live coverage on the Nerdist Channel.

And then, there’s #EVOKE13 on Tuesday night, March 12th. What’s #EVOKE13? Three words: Cirque du Soleil. See, you’re already making plans to be there. The event is at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater, 310 W 2nd St., and it’s described as a specially created act by Cirque exclusively for SXSW, so it’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You gotta see it. And Chris Hardwick will host a roundtable with Meg Turney and Cirque du Soleil representatives, plus The Divine Fits will perform and DJ Sam Spiegel will spin. Doors open at 7, show begins at 8, and it’s open to anyone with Interactive, Film, Music and Gold Platinum wristbands.

So be there. And if you can’t, subscribe to the Nerdist Channel so you know precisely when the streaming coverage is on.
