If Andy’s toys could have done this to begin with, he’d never have wanted a Buzz Lightyear. Yes, that gigantic robot pictured above is made up of Woody and friends from the first Toy Story movie, including Bullseye, Hamm, Slinky, and Rex. You know, just in case some other kid brings over Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, and they come to life and make Lotso Huggin’ Bear grow! Grow! GROW! According to Bandai, it was John Lasseter’s idea to create a combiner like this.
The Chogokinâwhich stands 24 centimeters tall in robot mode and is officially named “WOODY ROBO SHERIFF STAR”âmade its debut this week at the Tokyo Toy Fair. It will first be shown at the U.S. at San Diego Comic-Con, where Bluefin will be taking preorders, and early sign-ups will get a special picture book with purchase. It all costs $170, but doing the math, that’s $34 for each figure, which is pretty low for imported, licensed toys.
The obvious question is: where’s Buzz? My guess? If this one does well, he’ll be combining with Zurg, the green aliens, and maybe one of Sid’s toys to form SUPER INFINITY ROBO BUZZ SUPREME, or whatever grandiose name his Voltron-ish creation-to-be deserves. Now, should we adjust the lyrics of the theme song? “You’ve got a friend in Me-gazord!” Stinky Pete is about to get squashed.
Is this new take on Pixar characters an approach you like? Will the Cars characters inevitably fulfill their destiny as Stunticons? Would a Nemo set look alarmingly like a sashimi combo plate? We’re fishin’ for comments, so go give us yours down below! After you check out the full image gallery, of course.
