When it comes to the name David Rees, a celebrated humorist and cartoonist may come to mind. Perhaps, the niche world of artisanal pencil sharpening are what you associate with the Rees name. You wouldn’t be wrong — David Rees does indeed run an actual artisanal pencil sharpening service following the publishing of his book How To Sharpen Pencils. Now, Rees is set to add another hyphen to his wonderfully varied multi-hyphenate job description with hosting his own show on The National Geographic Channel. Starting in two weeks, Going Deep with David Rees will have Rees giving us a different kind of how-to show.
Given the detail that goes into Rees’ pencil sharpening and how delightful his presentation of the oft-overlooked skill is, Going Deep should provide a new, sharply funny lens for the how-to show format. Something as simplistic as digging a hole will get its own introspective, funny analysis by David. You’ll get to look forward to the exploration of exciting topics like how to tie your shoe and perfecting the ice cube, as well, on Going Deep.
This will be a nice change of pace for The National Geographic Channel as much of their programming documents the lives of people with guns, chainsaws, and survival skills. Instead, Rees will delve into the finer points of the common practice of arm wrestling.
If you’ve never asked yourself about how you go about small, everyday tasks in your life, you’ll probably love David Rees’ unique take on it. Know that this is the type of how-to show where the host doesn’t want to take his shirt off if that makes it more enticing.
Going Deep premieres on Monday, July 14th on The National Geographic Channel. What small, unquestioned, everyday activities would you want Rees to cover? Let us know in the comments below.
