There is Now a Nation of Thousands in Space (Kinda)

Imagine humanity’s first permanent extraterrestrial outpost. You’re probably envisioning something like Elysium or The Expanse, right? Giant space craft and space stations ferrying and harboring humans far up Earth’s gravity well. Who would have thought the first “nation” in space, then, would be set up by single billionaire (not that one) and could fit in the palm of your hand?

On today’s episode of Muskwatch, Dan and I are tackling some of the stories and Musky updates we didn’t get to share with you this year. Think of it as holiday leftovers.

First up: Asgardia, the effort by a Russian billionaire to create a nation in space to protect Earth from outside threats. They’ve actually made it to space! Just not in corporeal form. No, the mighty space nation of Asgardia is but a 512 GB hard drive on an orbiting cube satellite containing the names and photos of 18,000 of its “citizens.” Yay?

That’s not the only story on today’s episode of Muskwatch. We’ve got an update on Papa Elon’s efforts to turn Australia into a giant battery and what the world’s first robotic citizen wants to name her first born. Plus, Dan and I insert ourselves into Elon’s life even more that we currently do.

Muskwatch airs on Nerdist.com and YouTube every Tuesday, but you can hack the planet and watch it two full days earlier on Sunday if you’re an Alpha subscriber. Find out how you can get 30 days free (and be 48 hours smarter than your dumb friends) right here.

What do you think of this week’s top stories? What else would you like to see us discuss on Muskwatch? Let us know in the comments below!
