Everybody knows Nathan Fillion is a superheroâeverybody. And more than that, everybody wants to see Nathan Fillion play a superhero onscreen. The groundswell of support for him to play Hal Jordan in a Green Lantern movie led him to playing the character in vocal form for several DC animated movies (and on Robot Chicken, of course). But hearing him and seeing him are two different things, which is maybe why James Gunn is trolling fandom hard with Fillion’s “cameo” in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 which is currently filming.
If you’re a massive spoiler-phobe, we suggesting turning back now…

Okay, you good?
As shared by ComicBook.com, via Jonathan Hunter, pictures of the set of Guardians 2 displays a movie theater which is having a Simon Williams retrospective, and the individual fake movie posters feature Fillion as Williams. Now if you aren’t aware, Simon Williams is the alter ego of Wonder Man, a former villain turned Avenger. In the comics, the lantern-jawed Wonder Man retired from the superhero squad to pursue his acting career, which evidently he did.
At least a portion of the movie will apparently take place on Earth, but we don’t know yet whether it’ll be a flashback or present day. The movie posters in question (which you can see in the gallery below) include movies like the romantic comedy Oh, Rebecca!, the Conan the Barbarian-esque Arkon (who is another Marvel character), and even a parody of Steve Jobs called Tony Stark. Also, just to tip the hat to Gunn’s Troma Films roots, a poster for Toxic Janitor 2.
Now, we’re pretty sure this is just a silly throwaway gag, considering introducing an obscure character in Guardians 2 would be a real roundabout way to do it. Also, let us not forget that Gunn is a big fan of trolling Marvel fans, as evidenced by the Howard the Duck cameo in the first movie, voiced by Seth Green. We like ourselves some Easter eggs, though.
