MYTHBUSTERS Build Team Has a Netflix Series and More TV News

If you’re just returning to work from a long weekend, welcome back? I know today’s going to be tough, so I’m here with helpful advice: pour a big cup of coffee or tea and take a break to catch up on television news—it’s what all the kids are doing to relax. Today’s TV-Cap has word about a new Netflix project from the MythBusters build team, a Great British Bake Off coloring book, a look at Ghost Rider on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and more.

The Build Team Returns! Losing MythBusters’ fantastic build team, Grant Imahara, Tory Belleci, and Kari Byron, was one of the worst parts about the series taking a different direction. However, news dropped at DragonCon that the trio is working together once again, this time for Netflix. They’re the stars of the new series called White Rabbit Project, premiering on the streaming service on December 9. According to Nerdist reader Leif Anderson, the new show will cover subjects that “are those that you find when you ‘go down the rabbit hole on the internet.” [Nerdist, Image: Netflix]

Live Long and Marathon. Syfy is raising its glass to the Star Trek 50th anniversary on Thursday, September 8 with a mini movie marathon. They’ll kick off at 3:30p.m. ET and show Star Trek: Generations, First Contact, and The Voyage Home.

Real Inspiration. Netflix’s Stranger Things has charmed myself and most everyone I know, and from what I can tell, also all of the internet. Therefore, new tidbits about the series are always interesting to me. Tidbits like the fact that the series had a little bit of basis in reality. There’s a whole conspiracy theory. Jessica dives into it in the latest Nerdist News, embedded above. [Nerdist]

Please, Sir. Whaaaat. An adaptation of Oliver Twist is coming to television as a procedural titled Twist. NBC is describing the show as a “sexy contemporary take on Oliver Twist with a struggling 20-something female (Twist) who finally finds a true sense of family in a strange group of talented outcasts who use their unique skills to take down wealthy criminals.” That’s quite the modernization, and I’m curious to see what of the source material will be in the finished script. Side by Side. We’ve seen Supergirl and Superman team up in some key art for season two of Supergirl, but Entertainment Weekly has shared a look at the characters together on set. Tyler Hoechlin talked to EW about playing the Man of Steel and said, “It’s Superman as I think he was intended to be.” He adds this Superman will be a symbol of hope. Take that, DC movies. Electric Star. It’s being reported that a Black Lightning-led television series is in the works. More DC heroes on TV? No problem. Greg Berlanti is working with Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil on the project featuring Jefferson Pierce. The show would start years after Pierce gave up his Black Lightning mantle but is forced to become a vigilante again. [Nerdist]

No Soggy Bottoms! Sharpen your coloring pencils and prepare for a weekend in the tent, a.k.a. your living room, with the Great British Bake Off official colouring book. No, this is not a dream. This coloring book features illustrations by Tom Hovey, the gent who provides all the drawings for the British series. Who else is pre-ordering this book right now? Vengeance. Robbie Reyes, a.k.a. Ghost Rider, is driving into season four of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Entertainment Weekly has shared a first look at Gabriel Luna in character. And to tease his arrival, Marvel’s shared the above faux found cell phone footage too. [Nerdist, Image: ABC/Entertainment Weekly]

Flashy Videos. The Flash returns with season three on October 4, but season two has just arrived to Blu-ray on September 6. I have a couple videos to get you pumped about both releases. First, look back to season two with this deleted scene showing Caitlin Snow and Jay Garrick’s first date. Then, watch a two minute supercut summarizing season two.

Finding Trouble. The most recent Fear the Walking Dead turned attention back to Travis and Chris and also stopped in to check on Alicia. Read Joseph’s recap of “Do Not Disturb.”

Are you looking forward to White Rabbit Project? And what are your hopes for Supergirl’s Superman? Talk to me in the comments.
