Music Geek Track of the Week: Tweens, ‘Be Mean’

Tweens are a scrappy trio of punk-rockers from my hometown of Cincinnati, and purveyors of my new favorite subgenre, “Trash Pop.” Their new single, “Be Mean,” is an aggressive, shredtastic anthem about being a little bit salty toward the person you love, and it comes off in a potentially kinky way when lead singer/guitarist Bridget Battle implores, “I want you to be mean to me!” I really need to take a trip home and go to the Northside Tavern so I can hear her caterwaul this into my face. Got a really solid feeling about Tween’s abrasive, yet catchy vibe, so be sure to grab their eponymous debut album on April 8th (via Frenchkiss).
