Music Geek Track Of The Week: “Krokodil”

This week’s track goes out to one of Nerdist’s favorites, St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) one of our biggest nerd crushes. After first hearing this song live at Coachella (performed while she crowd-surfed), “Krokodil” has finally leaked and we have fallen in love with this rocker chick all over again.

I am especially fond of this song because, unlike the majority of her mellow, operatic tracks, this one is meant for dancing. Her low-fi vocals and epic guitar pounding either makes you wanna dance around your room in that Spider-man underwear you covet, or say screw it and MOSH. At only 2 minutes and 32 seconds, “Krokodil” is a burst of energy, even throwing in a signature St. Vincent scream at the end. If you thought she was a badass before, watch this Coachella footage of Krokodil, and have your mind officially blown.

If you aren’t aware of what krokodil is, I highly encourage you NOT to google image it.

Short of it – opiate many times stronger than morphine, popular in Russia, drug dealer scumbags frequently synthesize it and don’t remove impurities, ends up killing huge amounts of flesh on the users leaving dead skin hanging off of exposed bone. Average life expectancy for krokodil addicts is about 1-3 years once addicted.
