Music Geek Track Of The Week: Down In The Willow Garden

Since you’re currently perusing The Nerdist, I can safely assume that anything posted on the internet over 48 hours ago is “old news.” Under normal circumstances, I’d let a song that’s received this much attention go by to avoid redundancies and mean people comments. But I strongly believe that even if you’ve read your Pitchfork and this song has broken into your ear-safes already, that listening to it again can only bring goodness to your day.

Of course I’m talking about Bon Iver. Come on.

The Chieftains – Down in the Willow Garden (ft. Bon Iver) by Miscellaneous le blog

This scrumptious piece of musical cake was brought to you by none other than an Irish folk band called The Chieftains.  For the 50th anniversary of their togetherness, The Chieftains have enlisted the likes of Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Low Anthem and many more to collaborate on Voice of Ages, an album due February  21st.

Bon Iver and Irish folk go together like peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly, and Buster and Lucille Bluth. You wonder why this hasn’t been a thing since the beginning of time, and why it won’t last forever.

This isn’t Bon Iver (Justin Vernon’s) first collaboration with a genre-specific group. He’s been known to mingle with Sounds of the South. Together they gave an equally heart-melting performance last year at Cincinnati’s Music Now festival, curated by Aaron and Bryce Dessner, members of the band The National.

ASTW Presents | Sharon Van Etten & Justin Vernon – “Trials, Troubles, Tribulations” | Sounds of the South @ MusicNOW from A Story Told Well on Vimeo.

These songs are what it feels like to give your brain a hug. Listen to them.

Crikey, have you listened to those lyrics? It’s not exactly Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.
