Music Geek Track Of The Week: Chuck Inglish’s ‘Legs’

Normally we avoid posting anything directly from Pitchfork mainly because, we just don’t have to. However, this one was unavoidable, due to the fact that it will rock all of the socks off.

Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids recently collaborated with Chromeo, among others, on his solo album, Convertibles. The song “Legs” debuted yesterday, and whether you listen to it earnestly or ironically, fun is in store. Dads across America would probably call it “groovy” in their very best Austin Powers impressions.

Some could argue that the song is misogynistic, as the lyrics specifically repeat, “She gotta have LEGS” over and over again. A counterargument would be that Chuck’s standards are far more reasonable than Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 hit, “Baby Got Back“, in which Mr. Lot specifically states that a woman’s measurements must be 36″ x 24″ x 36″, but ONLY if she’s 5’3”. Nonetheless, it’s still a classic. In Chuck’s case, his girl only really has to have legs, which can be considered reasonable. Perhaps Inglish and Chromeo are even making a feminist statement? Probably not, but who knows? Who cares? It’s great!

Personally, I am outraged on behalf of the legless-American community! Cute song, though . . .
