2013 was finally the breakout year that Sky Ferreira had been working toward ever since she used her MySpace page to grab the attention of music industry types in the late 2000’s. After rejecting the cloyingly twee direction that execs presumably forced upon her early in her career and channeling ’80s glam, post punk, and New Wave sounds on her debut album — one of my favorites of the year — Sky Ferreira has carved an infectiously dark pop aesthetic that is perfect for 2013.

This vibe is palpable in the above music video. In her collaborative cover of Ariel Pink’s “My Molly,” Sky summons her inner Runaway as she and Ariel goof off with extra serious faces.
