Music Geek Track Of The Day: ‘Vegan Vampire’ by Major Lazer Feat. Ezra Koenig

Before we go into further detail on the song you’re about to hear from Major Lazer, allow us to offer this caveat, straight from the artist himself: “The song is NOT currently finished. It will be out in 2015, I will post where you can purchase it when it is released to support the creators.”

All that aside, allow us to present “Vegan Vampire,” a new track from the animated alter-ego of famed DJ Diplo. Taken from the producer’s upcoming series on FXX, the song features spoken word excerpts from Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig, who seems to play… Wait for it… A soy-friendly bloodsucker in the cartoon.

As far as we can tell, Koenig’s contribution is only through dialogue instead of actual vocals. However, the guy who does provide the song’s hook has endless amounts of soul that act as a great backdrop to Koenig character’s desire to make his girl, Penny, happy while fighting off his carnal desires—and a bunch of other vampire vampires.

(It makes more sense when you hear it in context. Trust.)

Rumors of the series originally surfaced in 2011, when it was thought to be part of Adult Swim. But now it appears that it will run on FXX sometime in 2015.

Lucky for us, a clip of the opening credits has already snuck online. In fact, if you happened to be watching the channel on October 26 at midnight, you might’ve already seen the snippet as part of the network’s Animation Domination.

Take a look and tell us what you think of Lazer’s superhero crew.

Major Lazer will be playing a few shows before the end of the year, though most of ’em are in India. For more info, check out his site.
