Named for Australian marsupials and hailing from Liverpool, The Wombats are easily one of the most exciting Brit-pop bands to cross the pond in the last decade and we are currently counting the days until the release of their third album, Glitterbug, on April 7.
The first single off the LP is “Greek Tragedy” and the accompanying video is definitely not for the faint of heart. The clip stars April Pearson (best-known to BBC viewers as Michelle Richardson from the original version of Skins) as a Wombats super-fan who will stop at nothing to get close to her favorite rock ‘n’ roll trio of singer/guitarist Matthew Murphy, drummer Daniel Haggis and bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen.
It all appears adorably innocent until the 2:40 minute mark, when things gets real.
SPOILER ALERT: There will be blood.
The Wombats first started wowing audiences with their bouncy brand of power-pop more than a decade ago, but it really wasn’t until the release of their 2007 hit “Let’s Dance To Joy Division” that their music started to spread like a virus.
