Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘The Glam’ by Sauna

Sauna are a Denver-based foursome who make bright garage pop that is currently making me very curious about the underground rock scene around the Rockies. The group is backed by the Orange County-based label/family, Burger Records, so you know you are in for a sun-glazed jam that makes you wish you lived on a coast where the sun sets into the water.

“The Glam,” the lead track of Sauna’s most recent release, Cheap Date, hits all the virtues of rock n’ roll right down to its “T. Rex in the tape deck” shoutout and strictly pentatonic guitar solo. Lead singer Molly Bartlett has a really airy voice, so I really like the moments in the song that she whips it upward. The band is currently on hiatus, but I am hopeful that Sauna will release more material with someone who looks like a ’70s porn star as the cover art soon (PS: Who is that??)
