With its heaping portion of braggadocio, “Sweatpants” was one of the more vicious tracks from Donald Glover’s — a/k/a Childish Gambino — divisive but great sophomore album, Because The Internet.
Now we have the accompanying music video, in which a perceptibly bummed Childish begins to lose his mind after a late-night, outdoor text exchange. It’s like the doctor always says: If your face is everyone’s face, you’re probably goin’ crazy, dog! Speaking of which, have you checked a mirror recently? Because now you have Donald Glover’s face. Because the internet.
The eerie music video also coincides with news that Glover is pretty steamed about the creative roadblocks he said his label, Glassnote Records, hurled in his way during the process of filming and building his new blog. I am basically just imagining him wearing that stonewall face, talking to an exec in an office, and saying, “Don’t be mad cuz I’m doin’ me better than you doin’ you,” and walking the fuck out of there.
