So this whole week the plan is to bring you guys songs that thematically tie into Thanksgiving, because hey, it is that time of year to reflect on everything that you consider yourself lucky to have. However, I’d be horribly remiss to ignore yesterday’s news out of Ferguson just to pretend that everything is absolutely hunky dory. Sometimes things are impossibly unfair, and they leave you gasping. But one of the upshots of tragedy is that you gravitate sources of comfort, solace, and support. You absolutely have to look toward the things that remain that you love, and be thankful, so so thankful.
I personally, am so thankful for all the outlets I have that help me cope with things that don’t make sense. Of course music is one of my main salves, and today Chance The Rapper and his band The Social Experiment dropped an uplifting track from their upcoming Surf project that reminds me of all the reasons to still smile and appreciate the things that make me a lucky person.
Chance The Rapper has a line in “Sunday Candy” that simply goes “I’m pessimistic on Monday,” but the song doesn’t only dwell on that defeated feeling (not to say that anyone should be in a position to move on right now). Instead the track invites you in from the rain and reminds you of all the things that provide gravity, security and comfort. At the very least, it is a welcome distraction.
Want to wish everyone the best, and we’ll be back tomorrow with another track of the day that makes us thankful.
