Music Geek Track of the Day: SHEER MAG’s ‘Fan the Flames’ is Delicious Disco Garage Punk

Goodness gracious do we love a genre-bender. And the sweet kick-beats of the disco-laden, DIY garage punks of Sheer Mag do exactly that. Which is why we’re head over heels for “Fan the Flames,” the band’s latest tune. Trust us when we say you’re going to FEEL this song just as much as you’ll hear it.

Fronted by the ferocious and emotive singer Christina Halladay, Sheer Mag’s varied influences are all on display in the tune’s genetic code: flecks of Thin Lizzy and KISS, basement concert vibes, and powerful vocals akin to Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard gone lo-fi.

“You’ve got to stand up and fan the flames,” Halladay implores in the song’s chorus, her voice sounding at once equal parts nasally punk and melodically full bodied—two things one would not expect from a band that’s only been playing live shows for just over a year. But for Kyle Seely (lead guitarist), his brother Hart Seely (bass), Matt Palmer (rhythm guitar), Allen Chapman (drums), and Halladay, theirs is an organic blend, and their Philadelphia background and assertiveness is propelling them straight into our hearts.

The tenacity is real, y’all!

“Fan the Flames” is sure to make your new tunes playlists and if you like what you hear, we suggest picking up their brand new EP, II. The band just so happened to release it on the 18th of this month and it’s available on their bandcamp page (right here right MEOW).

What do you think of the tune? Let us hear it in the comments.
