Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Serve’ by Rahel

A few months ago Rahel performed a cover of Erykah Badu’s “Window Seat” to a rapt crowd inside the Empty Bottle, many Chicagoans’ favorite haunt for super cheap drink specials and consistently amazing music. The crowd was also stacked with many musicians who have been featured on Music Geek Track of the Day and many more who will be in the future (Le1f and How To Dress Well among them). As soon as the singer began, everyone who was fiddling around by the bar or sitting down stood up, myself included, and became totally immersed in her perfectly smooth vocals. After that performance I went home and googled so hard, but couldn’t find anything except a few features on other artists songs. I was bummed, and all I could do was wait.

Well, today is the day my friends! Rahel has just released her debut solo track “Serve” and it is so super sexy! Jeremiah Meece of The-Drum, Chicago’s all stars of underground, off-kilter R&B production, gives Rahel an uncharacteristically sweet track of synthy chirps that works well to compliment her confident, yet playful voice. The replay value on this is through the roof and I’m fixing to put this all over every summer mix I make. It is the perfect song for hanging out on your roof, making out with your boo, or just pretending to be a background dancer while you are at home–hopefully all three. Enjoy everybody!
