Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Rover’ by Royce Wood Jr. Is A Space Age R&B Jam

It is 2123 and you are manning a consumer facing moon rover (probably courtesy of Elon Musk), matte black with tires as big as boulders. You are flipping through all the international space radio stations and in between humanoid Ariana Grande and Weezer (what? People still like Pinkerton in space) you flip on “Rover” by Royce Wood Jr, and can’t help but feel, for the very first time, that you are living in the future.

The song fades in sensually and keyboard keys light up like the moment a satellite receives a late night transmission and bloops its little transponder light. Then a voice, certainly not from planet earth, serenades you into a blissful lull. Like could this be an extraterrestrial strategy to hypnotize? Or is it simply a serendipitous string of noises in between two radio channels?

It’s actually “Rover” a new song by Royce Wood Jr., a former roommate and aesthetic cousin of Jamie Woon. The exceptional song is the leadoff track to Wood’s brand new Rover EP, which is comprised of gems that you should absolutely spend plenty of time with. His debut album Ashen Tang will be released in the spring of 2015, and we will likely be playing it all the way through winter 2016.

Let us know what you guys think of “Rover” and if you plan on spending more time with the extraterrestrial R&B that is Royce Wood Jr.’s Rover EP.
