Hey, remember that Childish Gambino song called “Freaks & Geeks”? Yeah? Remember hearing that line about Ariel Pink and being like, “I don’t understand that reference but I’m going to rap along anyway”…? Â Cool. Well, this is Ariel Pink, he has a new album coming out called Pom Pom, (November 17) and it’s going to be awesome if “Put Your Number In My Phone” is any indication. It is the sort of track that recalls the dulcet intonations a 60s pop track at the same time it cheekily refers to a very clunky, yet normalized interaction of the 21st century.
After taking a semi-long hiatus after his 2012 album, Mature Themes, Pink is back, honing a seperate  nostalgia that reminds you of things like Michael Cera in Juno and bean bag chairs and paisley. It even comes with it’s on voicemail interlude a la TSwift, (though I’m positive she’s not the first to use a cheesy VO in a song, it’s just the first example that popped into my head). Regardless, listen to this lo-fi, folksy little track and think of cozy sweaters and flip phones, yeah, remember those? Me neither. Baby–baaaaaby.
