Music Geek Track of the Day: PAWS Flawlessly Cover ‘Deceptacon’ by Le Tigre

If you have never seen the original music video for Le Tigre’s mid-aughts punk anthem “Deceptacon,” do yourself a favor and set aside 15 minutes to learn the basic dance moves that those two hyper-pixelated white dudes in tan suits and yellow construction paper hats are cutting a rug to. It is a truly purifying and somewhat spiritual experience–I promise (I think I can still make it to the 45 second-mark).

Today’s track of the day is a pretty spot-on cover of the original Kathleen Hannah-penned track by the Scottish trio PAWS, who just debuted their first album, Youth Culture Forever, (young people, yeah!). On the last day of recording their album in New York, they were fiddling around with the basic chord structure of “Deceptacon”, nailed it and then committed it to tape. Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast filled out the vocals to give the cover that gritty bite that original captured so well.

Original track playing in the background? Your facts are wrong. Sound terrible? Your opinion is wrong.
