Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Moon In My Mouth’ by No Joy is Serene Indie Rock

No Joy is hard to summarize with a genre descriptor. They’ve been known to tackle shoegaze, lo-fi garage rock, dream pop, and often all at once. With their latest releases, “Hollywood Teeth” and “Moon In My Mouth”, the Canadian band sound absolutely pristine. It’s as if they they’ve taken all these different reference points that have characterized their previous releases, sanded away any protrusions and irregularities for one unified day-dreamy sheen.

“Moon In My Mouth” reminds me of the woozy state that imprisons your senses and motor function when you are immediately post-anesthesia and can tell that your body has not quite yet caught up with you mind. The way all the ascending and descending guitar notes hit you from every angle is at once disorienting and soothing, and then there is that sweet satisfaction of that dreamy chorus chant: “anything else goes.”

Really looking forward to spending time with No Joy’s new record, More Faithful, which drops June 9 via Mexican Summer.
