He’s back! He’s back! He’s back! We want to scream it from the top of a mountain! Richard David James, or more commonly known by his infamous stage name, Aphex Twin, has finally released his first single in 13 years! We can all jump for joy and then once we’re tired from all the jumping, we can crawl into a stuffy dark hole and listen to ““minipops 67 [120.2][source field mix]” (what a doozy, eh?) on repeat.

His new album, Syro, is expected to release on September 23rd and if it sounds anything like this preview, we can expect new and exciting leaps in IDM and electronic music. James is the king of both ambient sounds and insane percussive techniques and “Minipops” showcases both as it becomes a whirling ecosystem. It’s compiled of bulbous synths, robitic vocals, and a healthy dose of bleeps and bloops. Basically, It’s probably what R2-D2 listens to when he’s going to a dance club, or maybe to the gym to shed a few rob-pounds. We live in the future, and robots get self-conscious, right?
