Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Milkman’ by Bully Will Make You Want To Mosh

Bully is a Nashville-based four-piece whose garage rock aesthetic sounds uncannily like the post-grunge that was born after the meteoric rise of Nirvana–I am specifically getting a very Veruca Salt vibe from their recent Bully EP.

Though the Nirvana mention might sound like vague umbrella reference, the through-thread is surprisingly direct. Bully’s frontwoman and audio architect, Alicia Bognanno, studied sound engineering at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. Read: this is the same Steve Albini who produced Nirvana‘s In Utero.

And you can hear Bognanno’s impressive production techniques all over this EP, from the super even mix to the precise panning of the rhythm and lead guitars as they hop scotch in and out of your speakers throughout “Milkman”. And this doesn’t even broach the fact that this song is a thrashy, repayable anthem with clever lyrics. Bognanno’s voice is a cocktail of rye, cayenne pepper, and insomnia, and it fucking rules.
