Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Loved One’ (Meanest Man Contest Remix) by Roman Ruins

Relative time is a concept that I am certainly familiar with and accept, but that doesn’t mean that it comforts me. Sure, “time flies when you are having fun” and the opposite is also true–as those who had to sit through I, Frankenstein surely recall–but what about the aberrations? The times when you are sure that it’s midnight and its still just 8:3o. The lucky instances when you wake up in the morning and the expanse between snooze alarms feels infinite.

This tranquil remix of “Loved One” by New Orleans-based composer Graham Hill–a/k/a Roman Ruins–exists within that grey area of time’s authority. At 4 minutes, this beautifully string-laden track sounds like it should last for at least ten minutes but always feels so abruptly cut short by the time the song is over. It sways languorously, but also lopes along. Take a listen to see and feel for yourself.

(h/t to Yours Truly for premiering this track)
