Music Geek Track of the Day: Janelle Monáe Performs on SESAME STREET

Janelle Monáe is the chosen one, a sentient being from an abstract plane who was sent here to earth to teach positive body image, self expression, and of course, dat funk. Consequently we are very lucky to have her tuxedo-wearing human shell around to brighten our lives.

This week, the soul-singing ArchAndroid popped onto (the muthaf-kin) Sesame Street to help Bert, Big Bird, Elmo and other muppet friends learn about the importance of practice with “The Power of Yet”. You know what Aaliyah says–if at first you don’t succeed, summon an otherworldly soul singer for a little bit of didacticism, encouragement, and love. I think that is the gist of that song anyway.

After you watch the video, you’ll obviously want to keep your Monáe momentum going, and lucky for you, she just published her own Spotify playlist. It features a host of awesome jams from Arcade Fire, Drake, and Nirvana, officially making it cool to listen to whatever kind of music you want in whatever order you want.

Bad at math? Bad at baking cookies? Need a hug? Let us know in the comments below and Janelle Monaáe will magically beam to you with muppets to teach you some life lessons.
