Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Jamais Vu’ by The History of Apple Pie

The History of Apple Pie are skilled in the art of sonic pastiche. Their new album, Feel Something, offers an intelligible take on on the shoegaze genre referencing the prerequisite bands of that ilk–My Bloody Valentine, Lush, and The Jesus and Mary Chain–but perhaps the best track is the pych pop gem, “Jamais Vu”. The simple, clangy tone of the guitar is slightly reminiscent Melody’s Echo Chamber, a contemporary in the psych idiom whose work with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker is palpable on every recording. Though not groundbreaking by any means, this is a fun track that is a breath of fresh air as we head into the assuredly pastoral and then cerebral releases of late fall and winter.

In music video below, the band summons their inner Wes Anderson as they go on a Moonrise Kingdom-esque adventure with AK-47s that are actually fully loaded with bright colors. Also, the guitarist TOTALLY showed up to this shoot doing his best impression of Jason Schwartzman. Look at that Beatles-esque bowl! Rushmore much? They are quaint visuals for an equally enjoyable song.
