Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘I Did It’ by SPICA

SPICA are K-pop supergroup (beginning to question whether that phrase is redundant, considering many K-pop acts come prepackaged as supergroups anyway) that are about to make their KCON debut in Los Angeles to upwards of 20,000 people and conceivably melt the minds of all 11-20 year olds in the immediate vicinity of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

“I Did It” is the pop outfit’s first U.S. single and it features all the vocalists belting powerfully in English about living life the way they want and not taking any flak for it (sup Spice Girls). There is definitely a 90s choreographed girl-group vibe in addition to the Motown/soul stylings of the music video itself, all of which really makes me want to watch the music video for “Single Ladies” right after. Check out the video below, and happily scoot your butt to this peppy new single.

PS If you want to say hi to me on Saturday at KCON, I will be the really confused white guy with a John Fogerty tour t-shirt, so you should say hi/help me find what I am looking for.

  1. Ben says:

It is SERIOUSLY auto-tuned.  Don’t think it’s unfair to judge them based on an auto tuned (and, to be honest, pretty awful) song that they chose to release. It’s kind of the ONLY way to judge sugar pop artists.

  2. Craig Gibson says:

Broke out the kimchi scented Fleshlight for this one.

  3. Tripjack says:

Auto-tuned within an inch of its life. Such garbage, I bet none of them could sing anywhere near in tune IRL.

    • Coco says:

Except that they are amazing live. In fact, they aren’t as huge in Korea as they should be, as they are one of the few groups that focuses on vocals instead of image. The leader of the group is a vocal coach to other Korean groups as well. Just check out their rendition of the cups song:  http://youtu.be/Nv5wiRh3grs?t=49s

    • YDLM90 says:

I’ll agree that this song isn’t the best. But, Spica are actually pretty good singers. Their songs like ‘You Don’t Love Me’ and ‘Tonight’ do a better job at showing their vocals. To think so lowly of them based on one song when you know nothing about them is rude and ignorant.

    • Linda says:

“None of them could sing”. Are you high? Why not check their live performances first before making stupid judgment
