Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Coming Home’ by Leon Bridges Is Vintage Soul Through And Through

If you close your eyes and listen to the excellent, soulful “Coming Home” by Fort Worth, TX-native Leon Bridges, you will be transported to 1957 inside the recording studio space where a young Sam Cooke was recording some of his earliest singles. Everything from song structure to tonality (simple guitar hook, intro “ooo”s) to the tender, but confident timbre of Bridges’ voice is perfectly vintage. You get the feeling that this is a young guy who really knows and appreciates his music history, and has developed an emotional connection to it: “The world leaves a bitter taste in my mouth” sounds like a contemporary lament only to be fixed by closing one’s eyes and imagining a different time altogether.

Check out “Coming Home” below and let us know if you are as excited to get more new songs from Leon Bridges as we are. And if you are interested in discovering more new music, be sure to check out our previous installments of Music Geek Track of the Day.
