Music Geek Track of the Day: Arcade Fire Cover Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’

I am very happy right now. Arcade Fire has started covering Blondie’s 1978 new wave/disco smash “Heart of Glass”  on their Reflektor tour, and now I have a legitimate reason/excuse to google vintage pictures of Debbie Harry ;).

Considering the James-Murphy-produced disco groove of the band’s most recent album, this cover almost seems like, “duh, of course!” Listening to Blondie’s version of this song, I have no trouble at all imagining Arcade Fire having composed the original instrumentation and production as the backing band. I hope we get a studio version of this soon so we can hear Régine Chassagne really nail the vocals.

That’s a really good cover. It’s no surprise that is has 30k listens in such a short amount of time.
