Museyroom’s “Ranges” Is an Idyllic Stroll Through Mystical Woods (Premiere)

If you are a winter person (sup), then you will find the psychedelic video for Museyroom’s “Ranges” a refreshing preamble for the back six months of the year. Sure we have just started the summer season, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still be introverts while cautiously exploring the inner workings of our minds, while journeying through the vast outdoors.

Inspired by James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake, Museyroom consists of Ben Cohen, Jack Donovan, and Matt Coppola, all of whom lived in different cities while recording their latest, excellent album Pearly Whites. What they have created is the implied, nostalgic, negative space in between them, cosmically filling in the geographic gaps, uniting their tastes and influences. It is one of those genre-bucking records that dabble in a lot of contemporary styles but don’t stick to one concept too quickly, sharing its ethos with jazz more than folk or indie rock.

In the video for the track “Ranges” we see a young woman travel deep into a snow-peppered forest, through clouds of colored smoke to plant a striking purple flower and smash the clay pot it was in. The video weaves in animated clips of geese flying freely and a rotoscoped version of our protagonist to amplify the “free your mind” vibes of the whole thing. If nothing else, “Ranges” really makes me pine (heh) for mid-winter hikes in the woods behind my friend’s backyard. I’ve got roughly six more months before cold weather, but this song should help me burrow into my mind until then.

Let us know how you are feeling about “Ranges” and the rest of Pearly Whites on Twitter and in the comments!
