MUPPET BABIES to Return as CG Animated Series on Disney Junior

Television has always been an important part of my life. I remember certain childhood milestones by what TV show I was obsessed with at the time they happened. For many years, it was Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies. It entertained me, sure, but more importantly, it inspired my imagination. Muppet Babies was even the first comic I remember owning–though I didn’t quite understand it wasn’t supposed to be a coloring book. Oops. And now, Muppet Babies will influence a new generation because Disney is making a new series.

The reimagined, CG-animated Muppet Babies will debut on Disney Junior in early 2018. Like its predecessor from the ’80s, Muppet Babies will stay in the playroom and follow the adventures of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, and the stripey-legged Miss Nanny. They’ll aim the show at kids from 4-7, but I’m sure I won’t be the only adult tuning in to see what they do. For example, I’m dying to know whether they’ll pen a new theme song or update this classic:

Each episode of the reboot will include two 11-minute stories showcasing the Muppet Babies doing things like making a time machine and exploring space. I look forward to seeing what the kids get into and seeing if they tackle any parodies. There was a Star Wars-inspired installment back in the day–what if they did an episode tied to the prequels or The Force Awakens? And hey, do you think they’ll address the very important topic of what happened to Skeeter? She was created for Muppet Babies but isn’t seen in The Muppets. Inquiring minds need to know!

Are you excited about the return of Muppet Babies? Tell me in the comments.
