MTV’S LIQUID TELEVISION’s Archive Is Available Online for Free

Over two decades ago, Liquid Television was on the cutting edge of television animation, and it directly led to two of MTV’s most enduring animated series: Aeon Flux and Beavis and Butt-Head. Each episode of Liquid Television featured numerous shorts that were initially created by independent animators. Unfortunately, the complete episodes may never get a full DVD or Blu-ray release thanks to lingering issues with the music rights,, but the entire run of Liquid Television is once again available online for the first time in several years.

Via io9, all three seasons of Liquid Television have been added to the Internet Archive. For many animation fans, this may be the first opportunity to see Aeon Flux in its earliest form. Before landing her own spinoff series, Aeon Flux was the breakout character of this series. She was an assassin and secret operative in a dystopian future, who essentially shunned conventional morality. Aeon also gave Liquid Television one of its most iconic visuals when she captured a fly with her eyelashes.

Similarly, Beavis and Butt-Head‘s beginnings on Liquid Television barely resembled their appearances in the eventual animated spinoff. Mike Judge‘s Frog Baseball short was also more twisted and violent than the Beavis and Butt-Head TV series that followed, and even that show was forced to eventually tone down its edgier content.
