MR. ROBOT and INCORPORATED Announce VR Experiences at SDCC

As television’s dark soothsayers, Mr. Robot and highly anticipated ScyFy drama Incorporated would be remiss not to embrace the world’s burgeoning, dark relationship with virtual reality. In a joint press release, the two shows announced this morning that they will both offer full-fledged VR experiences at this week’s SDCC.

Mr. Robot’s exhibition was, appropriately, directed by the show’s director, Sam Esmail, and it stars our favorite bonkers leading man, Rami Malek. The 12-minute experience “offers an inside look at Elliot’s backstory” and marks one of the first times that fully scripted, narrative television content will appear in the VR medium.

USA will debut the content at 10:45 AM PST on July 21 as the “largest-ever co-viewing virtual reality simulcast event.” Via the Within App, people all over the world can join fans inside San Diego’s Petco Park to experience the story alongside the show’s cast. The content will be taken offline after the debut, but, if you miss the initial showing, you can still experience it at a pop-up Mr. Robot Computer Repair Shop replica at 343 4th Avenue in downtown San Diego, through the duration of Comic Con.

Incorporated, another drama that deals with a behemoth corporation and its totalitarian control, has announced a VR experience called “Welcome to the Quiet Room.” It will take place inside the “Incorporated Café,” a takeover of Maryjane’s Diner in the Hard Rock Hotel, and will offer 360-degree immersion and spatial audio. The experience will recreate the “Quiet Room,” the “locale within the world of Incorporated where those that have been disloyal to the Spiga Corporation are taken to be interrogated or ‘retired.’” Viewers will be interrogated by Julian (Dennis Haysbert) and will be privy to many secrets about the upcoming Incorporated world. SyFy will debut “Welcome to the Quiet Room” at 10:45 AM PST on July 21.

These both sound incredible. Anybody else going to put these on the top of their to-do list for Comic Con? Let us know the comments.
