Moya Flies Again! Show Creator Confirms FARSCAPE Movie

A Farscape movie is looking increasingly likely. TV.com, reporting from the Showrunners panel at WonderCon, got the first word with series creator Rockne O’Bannon revealing that a movie was in active development.

Later, joking with Nerdacy that the follow-up to the space opera was “the worst-kept secret,” O’Bannon said the project was in its early stages: “We’re far from production, but yeah, the first step is Justin [Monjo] working on a script for us. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.” Brian Henson is set to direct.

Farscape is this oddball corner of sci-fi that I’ve often tried to turn other genre fans on to (with mixed success). A collaboration with the Henson Creature Shop, the four-season series followed Earth astronaut John Crichton (Benjamin Browder) after a wormhole experiment put him on a literal collision course with a living ship piloted by a collection of escaped alien convicts on the run from jackbooted space Nazis. Some of the aliens were Muppets and ancient aliens where involved.

A synopsis has been knocking around since earlier this year (via Tor.com):

Set to follow the awesome comics written by our favorite Keith R.A. DeCandido, the film would follow John and Aeryn’s son, D’Argo (or Little D, as we will always refer to him). Because their baby was exhibiting a set of interesting powers that made him a magnet for galactic villains, we find that John and Aeryn hide their son on Earth to grow up. Now the kid is 19 and ready to go into space with his parents.

Meanwhile, listen to Brian Henson’s recent appearance on the Nerdist Podcast, and you can watch the first season of Farscape right here, courtesy of the Nerdist Channel:

just finished the last episode and it said “to be continued ” frellin liErs. I want more farscape! It can not end with their death! I thought it was Going to be a happy ending BUT NO! I need that movie.

  2. Gambit says:

Very poorly written article. I struggle take these things seriously when written so poorly. Robert Benedict Browder, that is the name of the actor that plays the main role of John Crichton.

  3. Gambit says:

    Very poorly written.

  4. Robert says:

    Oh yesss!!!

  5. Ron says:

    I’m so frelling excited.

  6. 908 says:

Recently discovered.Started slow, wonderful continuity and wound up great and very unique (especially loved the mind breaking episodes..assault on on officer, serious trouble $24 do you understand your rights as i read them, no, darn then your free to go.)

Scifi channel or the lamer twitter generation named syfy I always viewed poorly. Whatever was good was old and rare then and doesn’t exist now.

Its nice it got a miniseries (and movie to come) but it goes to show how little the people in charge know about getting quality out of the companies money. This show was worth the funding of 100 of their less than reality tv value crap they ooze out. They found something special a patch of jungle with the cure for cancer in this show and slash burned it to sow  grain where it stood. Grain that  molded and they continue to serve and claim to be great to consume.
If I had 3 stomach, Id use them all to upchuck on the executives because thats what I think of the job they are doing and their being so out of place to be anywhere near to make such decisions.

Fucking finger crossed! !!  Guys do you know any reliable websites to have a confirmation of some sort?

  8. Glenn Povéy says:

Brilliant Sci-fi series, the best and only one that has captured my imagination, since the original star trek series……can’t wait for the film…need any extras ?

  9. David says:

Just watched all four season for the first time. I couldn’t get enough. Looking forward to seeing The Peacekeeper Wars, I have it on order. I am a sucker for a good love story and happy ending.

  10. Cliff says:

Great news,Farscape deserves to come back, such an excellent show, all the cast and crew hard work always showed on the screen 🙂

  11. Jolene says:

His name isn’t Benjamin. It’s Ben. Short for Benedict, which is his middle name. Robert Benedict Browder. 😀 I’m a little late to the comment. oops.

  12. Ross says:

Great news, indeed. Can’t wait to see more of Claudia Black.

  13. Scorpius says:

The Peacekeeper Wars was a condensed version of Season 5. Visually it’s always amazing to see what the Henson company can do with a bit of extra time to prep. Even with the demand of the series break neck pace some of the creatures that were spawned over the 4 seasons are Sci-fi classics. The creature shop employs some of the most talented designers on earth. The new sets, effects, and the Scarrans looked badass! (Especially the resign on War Minister Akhna. “It’s the hat.”)

They also did some Farscape comics that could be considered as Season 6 by Rockne S. Obannon for BOOM! comics. As for a regular series return that would be awesome but unlikely. Maybe they will do a series of these movie those. It’ll be great to see the ‘ole crew back no matter what though.

  14. Charles Griffin says:

Wonder if they will make a season 5. Season 4 ended in a cliff hanger.

  15. gwynhyvar says:

“Benjamin” Browder? Seriously? A quick Google would tell you that his full name is Robert Benedict Browder. He’s always gone by “Ben,” which a two-second perusal of the credits would have told you. Bet you never even watched the show.

  16. Wootz! …. but, but, but, but, but… I want to see more of Aeryn!

  17. Glux247 says:

Sounds like a few of you missed Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars – the mini-series SciFi (yeah, before SyFy) put out a few years after cancellation that wraps the show up in five parts.

  18. Scorpius says:

That maybe but there is aways a loop hole somewhere. One option is it’ll be a crossover with Doctor Who. All Timey- Wimey and stuff! “John Crichton meet the Doctor” and then Scorpius Neuro spikes The Doctor in the back of his neck with a Harvey! The Doctors newest companion!

  19. Griffinbh says:

Ummm but the wormhole to earth was destroyed in the final episode of season 4…. how do they get to earth when they don’t know its relative position to the Farscape universe?

  20. Sheila S. says:

I LOVE FARSCAPE…I hated that is was ever canceled. One of the shows that made the Sci Fi channel. Stargate was the other. Now syfy is just awful.

    • Judi says:

syfy is awful because usa sold it to nbc. And who do you think now owns nbc . . . comcast, who else! Comcast is practically owned by the religiousright and some of the same guano-brains who own Fox. The aim of Comcast is to control the media and internet (just like clear channel controls the radio market.

      • John says:

        Uh.. no offense,

but you are an idiot if you think NBC is right wing. lol Actually, I take the no offense part back.

  21. bastien says:

I recently convinced a younger friend of mine that their next TV obsession should be Farscape with the following pitch:

Imagine if Joss Whedon in his prime did a version of a Star Wars/Trek show, but with better empowered/feminist female characters than his, better acting & production budgets, and with no gimicky character deaths.

  22. rkinne says:

    People still watch SyFy?

  23. Scorpius says:

    Awesome news! Can’t wait!!!

In the mean time will keep enjoying the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop on SyFy to tide me over!
