In two months, director Jon Favreauâs adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book will hit theaters with its dazzling blend of live-action and photo-realistic CGI. And while Favreau is primarily using Disneyâs animated Jungle Book movie as his guide, the new Super Bowl ad appears to deliver a more thrilling experience.
Newcomer Neel Sethi stars as Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves deep within the jungle. Most of the animals seem to love, or at least tolerate Mowgli. But the tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) has vowed to kill Mowgli, which forces Mowgliâs animal friends to escort him to safety outside of the jungle and make him leave behind the only life that heâs ever known.
The new trailer offers the best glimpse yet of the vocal talents in this movie, with Bill Murray as Baloo; Ben Kingsley as the panther, Bagheera; Christopher Walken as King Louie, and Scarlett Johansson as a gender-flipped, and much more dangerous incarnation of the giant snake known as Kaa.
We may even get to hear Murray sing the entire âBare Necessitiesâ song in the movie, as the trailerâs theme also features a more exciting remix of the classic Disney tune. But if the visuals are any indication, Favreau is going to go a little bit darker than the animated Jungle Book would allow. Thereâs even a tease for an intense battle between Baloo and Shere Khan with Mowgliâs life at stake!
The Jungle Book swings into theaters on April 15.
