Movie Morsels: Young Han Solo Is Down to a Few Finalists, and More

Yes, ready or not, we’ve got the short list of candidates to succeed Harrison Ford as everyone’s favorite intergalactic scoundrel in Disney’s much anticipated “Young Han SoloStar Wars spin-off/prequel film. Also in today’s Movie Morsels, the latest on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Tom Hiddleston‘s High-Rise, and more!

Han Solo Spin-Off Film

Han-Solo-6

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars‘ young Corellian smuggler, in his debut solo film appearance, will be portrayed by one of the following actors: Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), or Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service). And fellow industry rag Variety (via reporter Justin Kroll on Twitter) adds two more names to the mix: Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken)… It’s interesting (for us geeks anyway) to note that if Jenner is cast, then the two stars of CBS’ Supergirl (Calista Flockhart and Melissa Benoist) will be married to the only men alive to play Han Solo on the big screen.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It’s hard to walk into a grocery store these days without being hit with images from Warner Bros’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That’s due in no small part to Doritos’ promotional deal. Now, the snack chip king has its very own featurette on the film, featuring interviews with stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill…

Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Gal Gadot co-star in the Mach 25 superhero smackdown.

High-Rise

Yet another trailer for the chilly-looking J.G. Ballard adaptation High-Rise has arrived online, featuring star Tom Hiddleston in all his crystal-blue-eyed glory. I’ve been getting a most welcome Cronenberg vibe from this thing since Day 1. Here’s hoping my instincts are correct.

Director Ben Wheatley’s film co-stars Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, James Purefoy, and Keeley Hawes.

Green Room

Patrick Stewart has made a career out of playing wise, warm father figures, and he’s well-known for his behind-the-scenes social activism. So you can be sure that when Stewart decides to play a wicked rascist sonuvabitch he’s picked a project worthy of his efforts. Here’s the latest trailer for the thriller Green Room, in which kindly old Sir Pat headlines as a white supremacist leader…

Those crazy Fright Night remake kids Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots co-star for director Jeremy Saulnier in the April 15 release.

The Wild Life

If Zootopia somehow didn’t satisfy your craving for talking animated critters, then perhaps The Wild Life will do the job. Summit/Lionsgate’s retelling of Daniel Defoe’s beloved novel Robinson Crusoe hits theaters on September 9. Here’s the film’s brand-new trailer…

Life

Mission Impossible

Finally today… Rebecca Feguson was far and away the best thing about last summer’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and I’d happily watch her in damn near anything. Fortunately, her next big project, Life, isn’t just anything, but a sci-fi thriller about a mission to Mars that leads to “the discovery of intelligent alien life.” Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal co-star in the film, with a script by Reynolds’ Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Sony has just agreed to co-finance the Skydance picture.
