Movie Morsels: Warwick Davis Joins STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, MINECRAFT Director Rumors, and the Cutest Puppy Ever from Disney’s FEAST

Good morning, dear readers! It’s the day you’ve all been waiting for: Friday. The day that signifies the end of the work/school week for most and kicks off a brand new weekend, ripe with potential. Before you start carving pumpkins, marathoning Halloween movies or whipping up some comfort food, settle in for your end-of-the-week treat: some tasty Movie Morsels. Today we’ve got a veritable smorgasbord of cinematic delights for you, from a very welcome look at Chris Hemsworth’s new movie to the neverending news coming from Star Wars: Episode VII to your new favorite animated character. We hope you came hungry — and now, onto the feast!

Warwick Davis in Star Wars: Episode VII

Oh Warwick, you sly devil. Way to get us even more excited for Episode VII than we already are. The prolific actor of beloved films like Willow, Leprechaun, the Harry Potter series, and of course, Star Wars, released a video yesterday announcing that he will in fact be returning for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel. But who will he be portraying? Theoretically he could be reprising his role as Wicket, ferocious/adorable Ewok warrior (a stuffed version of which we can see Warwick Davis cuddling in the video below), but he could also be portraying a brand new character! At this point, it’s anyone’s guess, but either way, we’re pleased as punch Warwick’s returning to the franchise. [Collider]

Even More Star Wars: Episode VII News

Is it nerd Chrismukkah? It certainly feels that way after the cavalcade of Star Wars news we’ve received this week. From details on Vader in Star Wars Rebels to those intriguing leaked photos, there’s quite a bit to process from that galaxy far, far away. In yesterday’s Nerdist News, Jessica Chobot looks at all the incoming intel and ponders what it all means for the Star Wars universe. [Nerdist]

Meet Winston, the Star of Disney’s New Short, Feast

Feast

We dare you not to fall in love with Winston. We double dog dare you. The hangry Boston terrier is the star of Disney’s latest short, and EW has an exclusive look at the pup in action. Inspired by those Instagram one-a-day videos, Feast takes little snippets of Winston’s life, which like all of us, revolves around one thing: food. Directed by Patrick Osborne, the animation supervisor on the Oscar-winning short Paperman, this hand-drawn short stars quite possibly the cutest canine ever, who will steal your heart quicker than any full-length feature pet could. (Trust us, we’ve seen the short and we are still head over heels.) Feast will screen before Big Hero 6 in theaters November 6th, but you can watch a preview right here: [EW]

Chris Rock Kills it in Top Five Trailer

Yaaasss. The trailer for Chris Rock’s new film is finally here, and it does not disappoint. Top Five debuted at the Toronto Film Festival to stellar reviews, but this is the first audiences are seeing of the raved-about film. Rock plays Andre Allen, a world famous comedian who tries to reinvent himself as a dramatic actor. Hmmm. Interesting…. Top Five is being touted as Chris Rock’s best film in years, and we can’t wait to see the whole enchilada. [IndieWire]

If there’s one thing we love around Nerdist HQ, it’s movies. If there are two things we love around Nerdist HQ, it’s movies and great art. If there’s three… ok, you get it. We love film-inspired art, from shows at Gallery 1988 to the new group show at Hero Complex Gallery, entitled “Imagined Worlds.” With work based on the films of Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, John Carpenter, Peter Jackson, and Christopher Nolan, and will be on display at the Hero Complex Gallery from October 17-November 2. Chris Hemsworth in Heart of the Sea Teaser

Ron Howard + Chris Hemsworth + Moby Dick? SIGN ME UP. The new drama reunites Hemsworth with his Rush director for Heart of the Sea, the “real-life story” that inspired Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. The film also boasts an incredible cast, including Ben Whishaw (who plays Melville), Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and Benjamin Walker. Honestly, you had me at Brendan Gleeson. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Minecraft Movie Eyes Night at the Museum Director

Confession: all I know about Minecraft, I learned from my younger brother (who apparently is now too cool for it, so, you know. Teenagers). Minecraft joins Tetris as another blocky video game adaptation coming our way that doesn’t quite make sense yet. There’s not necessarily a narrative waiting to be mined there…. but hey, the same was said about Battleship, and look how that turned out! All kidding aside, we have no idea what Minecraft will turn into, but we DO know that Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy is rumored to be in talks with Warner Bros. to develop it into a full-length feature. So, there’s that! [ScreenRant]

Unbroken Trailer Showcases Up and Comer Jack O’Connell

Those of you that watched Skins, the UK teen drama that was so much better than it had any reason to be, know that Jack O’Connell is an acting powerhouse. Those of us who have yet to be introduced to Mr. O’Connell’s talent will be happily surprised when they see Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. Keep an eye on this guy, folks. He’s going to be huge. [Slashfilm]

Well, that about does it for us here at the ol’ Movie Morsels! Which of this week’s stories most tickled your fancy? Are you already head over heels for that cute little animated dog? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. JMK says:

Patrick Osborne continues to impress. I loved Paperman and I’m going to love Feast just off the teaser alone. Another reason to see Big Hero 6.

  2. If they want the Minecraft movie to be successful, they will need YOGSCAST involvement ESPECIALLY Simon & Lewis
