Movie Morsels: TRANSFORMERS Writing Team Adds 2 Female Screenwriters

So much movie news, so little time. Fortunately, Movie Morsels is here to make it all digestible for you in delicious, bite-sized chunks. On today’s menu: the latest additions to Paramount’s Transformers writing team, Star Wars Anthology director updates, a Paper Towns trailer and much, much more.

Transformers

The creative brain trust being assembled to revamp and revitalize the Transformers franchise just got a much-needed influx of feminine energy. The newest additions to the group are Lindsey Beer and Christina Hodson, who will join a creative cabal headed by Akiva Goldsman that includes Robert Kirkman, Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari, Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, Zak Penn, and Jeff Pinkner, among others. Beer has a number of projects in development, including Dig at Disney and a reimagined The Wizard of Oz for Warner Bros; she also studieed neuroscience and technology at Stanford, so she can put her money where her mouth is when it comes to the science part of science fiction. Hodson, on the other hand, most recently penned an updated version of The Fugitive for Warner Bros. Here’s hoping that the new group will be more than meets the eye.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Very little is known about the status of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. While we’ll have to wait until 2017 to find out what our favorite bunch of a-holes gets up to, writer-director James Gunn did offer a slight update on the script’s status via his Twitter feed:

Waitaminute, “the title?” Looks like the next Guardians flick may have a nifty subtitle to go along with it. Here’s hoping that it’s called Guardians of the Galaxy: A Spaceknight Named Rom. The film will release on May 5, 2017

Paper Towns

After the adaptation of author John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars made us weep in movie theaters while it laughed all the way to the bank, it was only a matter of time before 20th Century Fox tried its hand at another Green title. This time, they’re adapting Paper Towns, which tells the story of Quentin (Nat Wolff), a high school boy who tries to track down his crush, the girl-next-door Margo (Cara Delevigne), when she goes missing after a crazy night together. Now, there’s a brand new trailer, which gives us our best look yet at the hotly anticipated follow-up. The film, directed by Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank) hits theaters on July 24th.
