Thor star Chris Hemsworth also stars as the Ghostbusters’ secretary, Kevin.

Star Trek Beyond

You may have noticed that Alice Eve will not be reprising her role as Carol Marcus in Star Trek Beyond. As it turns out, incoming director Justin Lin is going out of his way to ignore certain aspects of Star Trek Into Darkness…including Khan’s superblood and the intergalactic transporters.

“Do we address [Star Trek Into Darkness]? No, but we don’t discount it, said Lin. “We don’t sit there and say it doesn’t exist, it’s part of this universe now…There were many iterations where we did go and explore [Carol Marcus], but we figured it was two and a half years… It was something we talked about and worked on, but in the presentation of this film it didn’t quite fit in. It’s there with the transporter and everything [laughs].”

Star Trek Beyond – Bonus Round!

A few weeks ago, Idris Elba said that his character in Star Trek Beyond would be “groundbreaking,” and unlike any other villain in the Star Trek franchise. If you saw the trailer earlier this week, then you probably didn’t even realize that Elba was in it! But indeed he was, and he has one of the trailer’s most memorable lines: “This is where it begins, Captain. This is where the frontier pushes back!”

Krall

According to a report on /Film, Elba is playing Krall, a member of a new species making their debut in Star Trek Beyond. Krall also has some very serious axes to grind with the Federation and the crew of the Enterprise.

“When [Idris] came in, he had a lot of [prospective] projects and when I talked to him about this character, it wasn’t about this or that it was about building or having a philosophy or point of view,” said Lin. “And I like his character because his character is really challenging the way of the Federation’s philosophy and there are a lot of things that when I was growing up I wanted to see.”

“It was just really embracing the idea that the Federation, what would happen if you were going on a five-year journey and you’re trying to also not only explore, but also maybe introduce other people to this way of thinking,” added Lin. “What would that mean? What are the consequences to that? I mean, spreading a philosophy that you believe in that you think is great, are there gonna be any other points of views that’s gonna counter you? And…I think we got to kind of explore that a little bit.”

Star Trek Beyond will beam into theaters on July 22, 2016.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Yesterday, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Henry Cavill each released solo posters for their heroic characters in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. They’re really striking images, particularly Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

Star Wars: Han Solo

If you’re lucky, you’ve already got your tickets to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens tonight. But in just a few years, the young Han Solo movie will be the Star Wars swansong of Lawrence Kasdan, the screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. But according to Kasdan, the Han Solo movie will be a particularly wild way to go out from the franchise.

“We’re actually quite far along,” said Kasdan. “My son [Jon] and I have written the story about young Han Solo. Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it, and we’re still working on the script. It’s still developing. It should be crazy because those guys are amazingly talented and you don’t know what they’re going to do. What they did with [The LEGO Movie] was amazing. So that should be a crazy movie.”

Synchronicity

Time travel movies are pretty common, but director Jacob Gentry’s Synchronicity appears to be a very different time travel story. The film follows Jim Beale (Chad McKnight), the inventor of time travel technology as he contends with Klaus Meisnera (Michael Ironside), a ruthless billionaire who wants his tech, an untrustworthy woman named Abby (Brianne Davis), and even an alternate version of Jim himself!

The new trailer for Synchronicity hints at its mind-bending possibilities, and it offers a very intriguing taste of the near future world created by Gentry.

Synchronicity will be released on January 22, 2016 in a select number of theaters.

Gods of Egypt

The whitest Gods you know are back in the new trailer for Alex Proyas’ Gods of Egypt. Keep in mind, 2016 is a year with new Star Wars and Star Trek movies, 6 major superhero films, dozens of sequels…and Gods of Egypt still looks like it’s going to be the most insane thing to hit theaters in the next calendar year.

Gods of Egypt will be released on February 26, 2016.
