Movie Morsels: Tatiana Maslany to Star in Boston Marathon Bombing Film STRONGER

One of the most versatile actresses on the planet looks like she’s about to land her first major Hollywood film role. Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany is in talks to star in the Boston Marathon bombing drama Stronger, directed by David Gordon Green. Plus, in today’s Movie Morsels, the latest on the Ghostbusters reboot, the trailer for Paul Bettany‘s directorial debut Shelter, and more!

Stronger

Krystal (TATIANA MASLANY)

Our favorite clone, er, clones will soon have a larger canvas on which to display her/their genius. Tatiana Maslany is in “early negotiations” to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Stronger, a drama examining the Boston Marathon bombing, as seen through the eyes of survivor Jeff Bauman (Gyllenhaal), who lost both legs in the attack, and his marathon runner girlfriend (Maslany). David Gordon Green helms the Lionsgate release. Whether or not this will impact Maslany’s availability to appear in Star Wars Episode VIII (for which she reportedly did chemistry tests last weekend), remains to be seen.

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters

Wondering why Rick Moranis turned down the opportunity to make a cameo appearance in director Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters remake? The veteran comedian explains in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

I wish them well. I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?

Moranis, in this engaging conversation (which is well worth reading), explains that he didn’t retire from acting, but merely took a break to raise his two children in the wake of his wife’s death in 1997:

I took a break, which turned into a longer break. But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn’t appeal to me.

Here’s wishing Moranis well in all his future endeavors. We miss you, sir.

Shelter

Anthony Mackie is one of my favorite film actors these days, and I’m thrilled he’ll soon be showing off his comedic chops in Seth Rogen’s yuletide laugh fest The Night Before. But lest we forget that Mackie can do drama like few others, we have the trailer for his latest film, Shelter, co-starring Jennifer Connelly, and written and directed by the actress’s husband Paul “The Vision” Bettany, in his directorial debut:

Shelter arrives on November 13th.
