Movie Morsels: The Origins of Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber Revealed

So much Star Wars: The Force Awakens goodness keeps coming our way that, for the next month, we might as well change the name of this column to Movie Force-els. Today brings more behind-the-scenes footage and official word from Lucasfilm on the origin of Kylo Ren’s lightsaber. This weekend brought us the fourth Star Wars: The Fourth Awakens TV spot, with even more new footage. Now we have an extended version of the recent Disney XD spot with more behind-the-scenes footage…

A lot of fans have been scratching their heads over just how Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is supposed to work. Now we have some insight via a plaque alongside the original crossguard saber prop at Disneyland’s Season of the Force celebration…

While this info is bound to spur new fan debates, the simplest answer as to how any why Ren has this particular lightsaber is that it looks awesome. Which, let’s face it, is the most important thing in Hollywood.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow. The film opens on December 18th.

Justice League: Part One

Batman v Superman

The long overdue Justice League movie will finally start shooting in the first or second quarter of 2016, according to Charles Roven. The producer tells Collider, “We’re making most of Wonder Woman [in the U.K.] and we’re also making most of Justice League there, JL One… We’re definitely gonna be shooting Part One in the first or second quarter of next year.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League: Part One will hit theaters on November 10, 2017, and star Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Toy Story 4

Toy Story

Actress Patricia Arquette is in talks to join the cast of Toy Story 4. Directed by John Lasseter and Josh Cooley, the sequel arrives on June 15, 2018. If cast, Arquette will presumably work with returning Toy Story stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Timothy Dalton, and Kristen Schaal.
