The End of the Tour

Writer David Foster Wallace is sadly no longer with us, but his work lives on through masterful novels like Infinite Jest. In what must be the most challenging role of his career, Jason Segel will portray Wallace in The End of the Tour, based on the five-day interview Wallace gave to Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky (played by Jesse Eisenberg) in 1996, and Lipsky’s resulting memoir Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace. The Spectacular Now helmer James Ponsoldt directs the film, which co-stars Anna Chlumsky, Joan Cusack, Mamie Gummer, Mickey Sumner, and Ron Livingston. The End of the Tour opens on July 31st. Here’s the just-released trailer and poster.

Pawn Sacrifice

Love it or hate it, chess isn’t exactly a game that’s made for a great many memorable films, with perhaps the exception of Searching for Bobby Fisher. Now, Tobey Maguire plays that film’s eponymous chess champion himself in a new biopic Pawn Sacrifice, which features Liev Schreiber as Fisher’s Russian rival Boris Spassky. Here’s the trailer. Directed by Edward Zwick and co-starring Peter Sarsgaard, Lily Rabe, Robin Weigert, and Michael Stuhlbarg, Pawn Sacrifice opens on September 18.
