Movie Morsels: SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS Gets a New Director, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Details, HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 Trailer, and More

Shadow of the Colossus

Do you believe in the impossible? You might after hearing this. The long-simmering movie adaptation of the classic video game Shadow of the Colossus took one giant step closer to coming to life by nailing down a director, namely Andres Muschetti, who directed the Guillermo del Toro-produced Mama. Previously, director Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four) was attached, but he is clearly no longer associated with the project presumably because he’s tied up with all things Fantastic Four. Thought Trank may be gone, Hanna screenwriter Seth Lochead is still working on the screenplay with Muschietti supervising. Here’s hoping that we’ll see the film sometime before The Last Guardian finally drops. [ScreenRant]

X-Men: Apocalypse

Need more X-Men in your life? Us too. Thankfully, we now have a possible start date for X-Men: Apocalypse. The film, which shoots in Montreal, will commence production in April 2015. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are already confirmed to be appearing in the 1980s-set film, and we know from a teased treatment page that the Four Horsemen will also be making an appearance. The important thing, though, is that Singer accidentally confirmed to me at a Days of Future Past press day that Mohawk Storm (!) will be making an appearance in the film too. Here’s hoping he wasn’t pulling my leg. [Collider]

Planet of the Apes

Could the evilest ape in all the land be making a menacing return in the next Planet of the Apes movie? According to director Matt Reeves, it’s entirely possible considering we never saw the body.

You’re one of the few people to ever mention that. That’s pretty funny. Because I struggled with – I thought that Toby Kebbell gave such an incredible performance. And I thought he was so powerful and I thought God you don’t find a villain who has got that great a story. Because as you said he was not really formed as a villain, he’s really a tragic figure. And I thought God, he’s amazing let’s leave open the possibility, let’s create the door of a possibility if we find a story that becomes worth telling that we can go down that path again because I thought the vein was so rich. And so I actually had been working on a version where you could actually see him survive and I realized that it wasn’t – it was Caesar’s movie and it was undercutting the whole idea. It sort of felt cheap. And so as we were mixing I was like I want to just leave one tiny Easter egg right at the end. I want to leave open the door just the tiniest crack. So you found the crack.” [io9]

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

Say what you will about Jennifer Lawrence, but I think she looks even better fully clothed, especially in this new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part Rebel Warriors poster.

Horrible Bosses 2

The second Horrible Bosses 2 trailer is here and it’s just clean enough to be labeled green band, which is to say it’s pretty filthy. The boys are back and this time, they’re going to kidnap Chris Pine and extort his dad, Christoph Waltz.

And the film also got a brand new poster, to boot.

The Last Witch Hunter

Yes, Vin Diesel is starring in a witch hunting movie. No, it isn’t a joke. Yes, it does look better than you might expect. Yes, it also stars Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, and Michael Caine. No, that isn’t a joke either. The point is, we got our first look at The Last Witch Hunter today on Vin Diesel’s Facebook page with a photo captioned “13th century Kaulder… The Last Witch Hunter begins…” [ComingSoon]

Spring

The Toronto International Film Festival is kicking into high gear and one of the most anticipated films is also one of the scariest: Spring. Co-directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s horror sci-fi romance stars Lou Taylor Puccci as an American backpacker traveling through Italy whose torrid romance with a local girl goes from good to bad to horrifying when a dark secret threatens to unravel their marital bliss. And now it has a trailer!

God Help the Girl

Are you a diehard Belle and Sebastian fan too? Good! Then you’ll be excited to see this new trailer of Emily Browning being all adorable in Stuart Murdoch’s musical God Help the Girl. [JoBlo]
