Movie Morsels: ROGUE ONE Coming to STAR WARS Celebration Europe

If you’ve never been to Europe, but you’ve been itching for a reason to go (other than that whole “thousands of years of art and culture” thing), we’ve got a pretty darn good Star Wars-related one for you in today’s Movie Morsels. Plus, the latest on Blade Runner 2, Godzilla vs. King Kong, and more!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One

Episode VIII rewarded hardcore Star Wars fans with star-splattered panel at the last Star Wars Celebration in Los Angeles, and now we hear that this year’s Rogue One will do the same at Celebration Europe. Director Gareth Edwards, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and a few “special guests” will appear at the event in London on Friday, July 15.

Due out on December 16, Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikklesen, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.

Blade Runner 2

Carla juri

Yet another actor has joined the cast of Blade Runner 2, which so far stars Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, and Robin Wright. This time it’s Swiss actress Carla Juri, best known for her role in the acclaimed German film Wetlands (pictured above). Will she play a human or a replicant? Hmmm… Denis Villeneuve directs this sequel (debuting on October 6, 2017) to Ridley Scott’s 1982 science fiction masterpiece.

For more Blade Runner 2 fun, here’s a new video interview with Gosling in which he discusses his reasons for signing on to the project…

Godzilla vs. Kong

Legendary has announced a change in the release date for its sequel to Gareth Edwards’ giant monster mash Godzilla. The director’s follow-up, Godzilla 2, moves from June 8, 2018 to March 22, 2019. While fans of the atomic lizard may be disappointed by the wait, the good news is that after the film arrives, they’ll only have a year to wait before his next appearance, in Godzilla vs. Kong. Yes, the studio has finally given the crossover film a firm release date: May 29, 2020. Of course by then we’ll all have had a chance to catch up with the giant ape, since his next solo film, Kong: Skull Island, is still set to land on March 10, 2017.

Dirty Grandpa

If you missed Dirty Grandpa when it was in theaters but were looking forward to catching the first raunch-ridden screen pairing of Robert De Niro and Zac Efron, don’t despair. On May 17, the film debuts on Unrated Blu-ray Combo Pack (plus Digital HD) and Unrated DVD (plus Digital). Here’s a preview of the home video release, a new featurette in which we learn fun facts like acting legend De Niro had no prior knowledge of the words “Hakuna Matata”…

Julianne Hough, Aubrey Plaza, Dermot Mulroney, Zoey Deutch, Jason Mantzoukas, Adam Pally, and Henry Zebrowski co-star in this Dan Mazer-directed comedy.

Nerve

Finally today… Emma Roberts must really have it in for Alison Brie! First she killed off Brie’s character in Wes Craven’s Scream 4 and now she makes out with Brie’s boyfriend Dave Franco in Nerve, a new thriller about an online game that asks just a little too much of the people playing it. The first trailer reminds me of David Fincher’s The Game as well as ’60s cult favorite The 10th Victim. Let’s just hope the film, coming on July 17, is in the same league as its predecessors…
