Movie Morsels: Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS 2 May Delay Production of ALIEN 5

In today’s installment of your favorite movie news roundup column we’ve got the latest on Alien 5 AND Prometheus 2, fresh footage from Victor Frankenstein, new photos from the set of Suicide Squad, news on the next thriller in which you can see Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson, and more!

Alien 5

Blomkamp Alien Concept Art Hicks

If you’re as curious as I am to see what director Neill Blomkamp can do with the Alien universe in his planned Alien 5 (the above concept art for which was recently released) you may have a little longer to wait. Original Alien director Ridley Scott is apparently keen that his own next Alien spin-off/prequel Prometheus 2 enter production first, and Fox might comply with the veteran filmmaker’s wishes.

According to an anonymous tipster at Bloody Disgusting, “Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea. Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.”

As they point out, the bright side is that this delay will increase the likelihood that Sigourney Weaver is available for the production, as she’ll first need to shoot James Cameron’s Avatar sequel.

Victor Frankenstein

After yesterday’s premiere of the US trailer for Victor Frankenstein, we now have the film’s UK trailer, which offers even more footage of this twisted take on Mary Shelley’s classic. Directed by Paul McGuigan and starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, Victor Frankenstein bows on November 25th.

Suicide Squad

To foster their team spirit, Will Smith and Margot Robbie decided to tattoo their Suicide Squad co-star Joel Kinnaman and director David Ayer with the group’s call sign, “SKWAD,” in “Harley’s Tattoo Parlour.”

Co-starring Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, and Viola Davis, Suicide Squad lands on August 5, 2016.

The Circle

John Boyega as Moses in Screen Gems' ATTACK THE BLOCK.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still months away from release, but star John Boyega has already generated strong enough buzz to land a lead role in The Circle, director James Ponsoldt’s adaptation of novelist Dave Egger’s acclaimed tech satire. Boyega will co-star with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson.

The Girl on the Train

Mission Impossible

Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation‘s breakout star, the kick-ass Rebecca Ferguson, has just boarded The Girl on the Train alongside Emily Blunt. Tate Taylor directs this adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel. Ferguson will play Anna, a woman for whom Rachel, Blunt’s character, finds her husband leaves her, only for Anna to find that she too has been cheated on. Blunt’s divorcee narrates this story “and spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day. One morning, she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.”
