It’s Tuesday, and we’ve got just the thing to see you through the early part of the week: a new installment of Movie Morsels! For today’s column, we’ve got updates on three Marvel movies: Ant-Man and The Wasp, Captain America: Civil War, and Doctor Strange before we tell you when to expect the Star Trek Beyond trailer. Star Wars who?
Along the way, Danny Elfman will rock your world with selections from The Nightmare Before Christmas and you’ll see the very first trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. Movie Morsels begins now!
Ant-Man and The Wasp
Last summerâs surprise hit, Ant-Man was essentially a superhero heist film. But director Peyton Reed has something else entirely in mind for Ant-Man and The Waspâhe just wonât say what it is.
âWe have an entirely different template,â said Reed while speaking to Comic Book Resources. âWe know what that template is, and we have an entirely different genre template for that movie. But it’s going to remain a surprise. But yes, that’s already been decided.â
Reed also shed some light on the partnership between Ant-Man and the Waspâs partnership in the film.
âI’m excited just for Evangeline [Lily] to actually suit up and become a hero in the movie,â related Reed. âI’m also excited about the idea that Ant-Man and the Wasp were a partnership throughout the history of Marvel Comics…this is a thing that in the comics was a romantic partnership and a heroic partnership, so it’s going to be fun to play around with that and discover what the movie version of that is.â
He added that the sequel will “continue that exploration of the family dynamics between Scott Lang and his family, but also, between Hank Pym and Hope and possibly even Janet. So that’s exciting.”
Ant-Man and The Wasp will fly into movie theaters on July 8, 2018.
Captain America: Civil War
Paul Ruddâs Ant-Man will appear in next yearâs Captain America: Civil War, but heâs far from the only guest star in that movie! Tom Hollandâs Spider-Man will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Civil War, which was unthinkable only a few years ago. In Marvelâs comic book universe, Spidey played a pivotal role in the Civil War miniseries that inspired this film.
Marvel Studios apparently warned directors Anthony and Joe Russo that they needed a backup plan if the talks with Sony Pictures fell through. But according to Anthony Russo, he and his brother always planned to have Spider-Man in the story.
“From the second that we had the idea that we were gonna do Civil War, Spider-Man was a part of the plan. A part of the story,” said Russo. “We were always told by Marvel, âWell, donât count on it, you may not get to use Spider-Man, you may not get to use Spider-Man, you better have a plan B.â We were like, âOkay, we get it…â But the truth is we never had a plan B.We only ever envisioned the movie with Spider-Man he was always a part of the story.â
âIt was very important to us to re-introduce the character,â added Russo. âWe cast him young. Tom Hollandâs a young actor, a teen himself. We really like playing to that nature of the character and we think it makes him very special in the universe of the Marvel characters.”
Captain America: Civil War â Bonus Round!
Today, Amazon is officially releasing the exclusive Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2 Collection on Blu-ray. And to further entice Marvel fans, the set includes sneak peaks at some of Marvelâs Phase 3 films. In this newly revealed Captain America: Civil War featurette from the Phase 2 box set, Marvelâs Kevin Feige teases the introduction of Black Panther and the role that Scarlet Witch will play in this adventure.
Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6, 2016.
Doctor Strange
Marvelâs other 2016 film also gets some love on the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2 Collection. For starters, check out this piece of Doctor Strange concept art courtesy of USA Today.
This is the first official piece of artwork from Doctor Strange to be released, although the image was glimpsed at Disneyâs D23 Expo last summer. It looks like Doctor Strangeâs signature outfit will be largely intact within the movie, and that includes his Cloak of Levitation! Marvel also released a Doctor Strange featurette from the Phase 2 box set.
Doctor Strange will cast its spell on moviegoers on November 4, 2016.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Whatâs this? Whatâs this?! Thereâs music everywhere in this two-hour video of Danny Elfmanâs concert from the Lincoln Center in New York City. PBS broadcast the entire performance, which featured Elfmanâs music from Tim Burtonâs films. And at the 90 minute mark, Elfman himself reprised his singing role as Jack Skellington for a few songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Of course, the entire concert is well worth your time if you love the collaborations between Elfman and Burton.

Star Trek Beyond
It was director J.J. Abramsâ stint on the first two Star Trek reboot movies that led to his gig as the helmer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And when The Force Awakens hits on December 18, fans will get a chance to see the first trailer for the third reboot film, Star Trek Beyond.
We donât know much about the story of Star Trek Beyond, but Scotty himself, Simon Pegg worked on the script, and the uncrowned James Bond, Idris Elba will be playing the big bad of this installment.
Star Trek Beyond will soar into theaters on July 22, 2016.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny
The long-awaited sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is just around the corner, as Netflix unleashes one of its biggest original films to date! Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will feature original star Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Yu Shu-Lien opposite modern martial arts legend Donnie Yen as Silent Wolf.
Weâve got the first trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, which you can see below!
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will be released on Netflix and in selected IMAX theaters on February 26, 2016.
